Trent Alexander-Arnold’s future looks increasingly away from Liverpool, with potential new employers, Real Madrid, proposing a shock swap deal that, whilst giving the Reds a player in return, would only seen them bank £21m (€25m).

Of course, the right-back could walk away from the club for nothing at the end of the 2024/25 season, and at present he’s shown no sign of putting pen to paper.

Real Madrid could land Trent Alexander-Arnold in January

Indeed, recent reports have gone as far as to suggest that contract talks have stalled completely.

Given that the player himself appears to have refused to comment on any reports surrounding his future for the most part, the notion that he could join up with fellow England international, Jude Bellingham, is gaining traction.

According to Defensa Central, Los Blancos are looking to sweeten a deal for the player in January by offering Aurelien Tchouameni as part of a swap deal to land Trent six months earlier than expected.

The report claims that, in fact, it’s Liverpool that are the instigators of any potential deal, bringing Trent’s relationship with his current employers into sharp focus.

Arne Slot has already shown in the short time that he’s been at the club that he’s no respecter of reputations, and clearly, if the Dutchman doesn’t believe Trent’s heart is in it, it seems as though he’s going to force the issue at the earliest available opportunity.

Given how well the Reds are playing at present, however, losing one of their best players in the middle of a potential title-winning season surely doesn’t benefit either party.

Unless there is a real need for Liverpool to want to bring in Tchouameni at this point, a January move doesn’t appear to make an awful lot of sense.

Liverpool still haven’t managed to tie down Virgil van Dijk, Trent Alexander-Arnold and Mo Salah to new contracts, even though it’s believed that talks are ongoing, but now it seems that Arne Slot and the club are getting desperate ensure another experienced player commits his future to the Reds.

One insider believes that van Dijk will continue his career at Anfield, and that surely has to do with the incredible impact that Slot has made since taking over from Jurgen Klopp.

Liverpool getting desperate

Given the Dutchman’s advancing years – he’ll be 34 before the start of the 2024/25 season – it’s a big commitment from the club to their captain.

Along with Salah and Trent, however, van Dijk is instrumental to the way in which Liverpool have played over the past few seasons, so it stands to reason that the club would want to do all it could in terms of meeting any contract demands.

The same could soon apply for marauding left-back, Andrew Robertson, another who was a stalwart for the Merseysiders throughout the Klopp era.

They want Robertson to commit to a new deal,” well connected ex-Premier League scout, Mick Brown, told Football Insider.

“Tsimikas has been more involved this season and Slot likes to rotate those two, but they still feel he’s a valuable presence on and off the pitch.

“We’ve spoken about their priorities in terms of getting their best players tied down but Robertson has gone under the radar in that respect.

“There are question marks about Van Dijk, Alexander-Arnold and Salah, now there are questions about Robertson, and all of a sudden they’re in serious trouble.

“Worst-case scenario, they lose all three of those three at the end of the season. Then, if Robertson leaves next year, that’s the majority of their leaders and big names gone.

“He’s been such an important player for them over the years, and even if his role is becoming less crucial, he would be a huge miss if he left.

“So from what I’ve heard, they’re desperate to get him tied down because they don’t want to risk being in that difficult situation where they’re losing their experiences heads.”

It’s being reported that a combination of factors could see Real Madrid step up their pursuit of Liverpool right-back Trent Alexander-Arnold this January.

The England international is nearing the end of his contract at Liverpool, meaning he could walk away on a free transfer at the end of the season if he doesn’t agree a new deal.

According to ABC, Alexander-Arnold is so far refusing to put pen to paper on a new contract with Liverpool, while Real Madrid are desperate to strengthen at right-back due to the injury sustained by Dani Carvajal.

“What’s the point!” Explosive Liverpool outburst suddenly makes A LOT of sense…

Alexander-Arnold is one of the very finest right-backs in world football, so could be ideal to replace Carvajal at the Bernabeu, and it seems the Spaniard’s serious injury could push Los Blancos to try to bring this deal forward.

Still, ABC also suggest that, despite this, Liverpool are surely not going to let Alexander-Arnold go in the middle of the season, while the player himself is also not expected to push for an exit so as not to sour his relationship with his boyhood club.

What next for Trent Alexander-Arnold?

Alexander-Arnold might not be on the move this January, but the fact remains that he still hasn’t signed a new LFC contract and that must be a huge worry for everyone associated with the club.

The 26-year-old is a world class talent and he could surely play for basically anyone in the world, so he won’t be short of offers if he does end up running his contract down.

One consolation for Liverpool is at least that Alexander-Arnold seems to be a top target for Real Madrid, meaning he probably won’t end up leaving them to strengthen a Premier League rival.

But it’s still a huge blow for the Reds as they now edge closer to losing such an important player for free, when he’d surely have an asking price perhaps as high as £100m if he were under contract for longer.

Liverpool right-back Trent Alexander-Arnold is reportedly set for a couple of weeks out injured with a hamstring problem.

However, one silver lining for Reds fans will be that the England international supposedly avoided even worse damage by going off early in the Aston Villa game at the weekend.

One of the best in the PL! Liverpool working on ambitious Van Dijk replacement!

That’s according to Paul Joyce as he posted an update on X, formerly Twitter, this morning, with details below…

Alexander-Arnold might be able to return for Liverpool for some big games against Southampton, Real Madrid and Manchester City, with Joyce noting that he’s not been ruled out of those matches.

Still, hamstring injuries can take a bit of time, so we’ll see if LFC really feel he’s fully fit and available for those games, or if it ends up being a little longer.

Will Liverpool cope without Trent Alexander-Arnold?

Liverpool have enjoyed a superb start to the season under new manager Arne Slot, with the Merseyside giants now five points clear at the top of the Premier League table, while they’re also flying high in the Champions League.

Things couldn’t really have gone any better for Liverpool, who have also been pretty lucky with injuries, even if goalkeeper Alisson has been a bit of a miss.

By contrast, though, Manchester City have been without Rodri recently and probably will be for the rest of the season, while Arsenal have had to cope without Martin Odegaard for a lengthy period, while others like Bukayo Saka, Declan Rice, Jurrien Timber and Riccardo Calafiori have also missed a fair few games.

Liverpool have been a bit more fortunate, but they’ll be tested now if they have to go on a run of games without a player as important as Alexander-Arnold.

The 26-year-old is one of the best in the world in his position and there’s not really anyone else in the squad who can offer the quality on the ball that he has.

According to the latest report, contract talks with Liverpool star Trent Alexander-Arnold have now stalled.

This is because, as per the report, the club are unwilling to offer him a higher wage than Mo Salah and Virgil van Dijk, two other key players’ whose contract expires this coming summer.

Liverpool’s concerning contract situation

Liverpool have found themselves in quite a concerning situation, with the contracts of arguably their three biggest stars expiring in the summer, making them potential free agents.

They are currently engaged in talks with all three over new deals, but are yet to come to an agreement with either of them.

As per recent report, Mo Salah’s camp are now also open to assess other offers from other clubs, which has added to the current uncertainty surrounding his future at the club.

The Reds are keen to keep him and the player has also previously expressed his desire to continue playing for Liverpool but are yet to come to an agreement.

Similarly, Virgil van Dijk has also expressed his desire to continue playing for Liverpool, with previous reports suggesting that the club are prioritising his contract over others.

The youngest of the three is Trent Alexander-Arnold’s contract, which perhaps makes it the most valuable for Liverpool. Real Madrid and PSG have shown strong interest in him and while the Reds want to tie him down to a new contract, they are facing difficulty in trying to reach an agreement with him.

Contract talks with Trent Alexander-Arnold have stalled

As per the report from The Sun, Liverpool have made several offers to improve Alexander- Arnold’s £180,000-a-week deal but are yet to reach agreement.

They are afraid that if they meet his incredibly high wage demands, they could risk cause ructions, particularly halfway through the season.

Madrid are in dire need of a new right-back after injury to Dani Carvajal and due to their current form, reports have suggested that they could expedite their move for the Liverpool man to bolster their team in January instead.

While a January move might be unlikely, there is a growing feeling around Liverpool that their star defender could leave the club next summer.

Liverpool are working towards agreeing a new deal with defender Trent Alexander-Arnold.

The defender has entered the final year of his contract at Anfield and Real Madrid consider him their top target for next year.

Los Blancos are waiting to sign him as a free agent in the next summer transfer window.

They are looking for a new right-back after Dani Carvajal suffered a long term injury.

Alexander-Arnold’s future at Liverpool is uncertain as both the player and the club are currently not close to agreeing a new deal. However, that is giving Real Madrid the confidence to sign the player in the future.

Transfer expert Fabrizio Romano has confirmed that the Spanish giants consider him a top target but for the summer transfer window next year, not the January transfer window which is around two months away.

On his Youtube channel, Romano provided the update about the Liverpool star.

He said:

“I am told that for January, Real Madrid internally feel that it is going to be almost mission impossible to sign Trent in the January transfer window. Trent is a name for the summer transfer window. That’s the idea for Real Madrid, and he’s always been considered a top, top, top target for the summer at Real Madrid.

The only way to make it happen in January is if Liverpool tell them, ‘okay, let’s negotiate’. But Liverpool, at the moment, are absolutely not opening the doors to that. Liverpool are very happy with Trent as part of the squad. Liverpool are still discussing with Trent over a new deal, and Liverpool are still pushing to keep Trent at the club, to extend his contract, to find a way.”

Trent Alexander-Arnold is edging closer to Liverpool exit

Alexander-Arnold has been a crucial player for the Reds this season. He has started all Premier League matches for Arne Slot’s side and has helped the club to cement their place at the top of the Premier League and the Champions League standings.

It is hard to imagine a Liverpool team without Alexander-Arnold but the lure of Real Madrid could be too big to reject for the player, where his best mate Jude Bellingham also plays football.

It appears like Alexander-Arnold has already made up his mind to leave the club and that is why no progress has been made on his contract situation.

Real Madrid are going through a difficult run of form at the moment and that’s reportedly created a sense of urgency at the club as they look to strengthen with big names like Liverpool right-back Trent Alexander-Arnold in the January transfer window.

Alexander-Arnold is nearing the end of his contract at Liverpool, meaning the Reds could be at serious risk of losing him on a free transfer next summer, which could in theory mean they’d be tempted to cash in on him while they still can in January.

This has Real Madrid on alert, according to Fichajes, as they eye up defensive reinforcements to look to turn their season around, with Alexander-Arnold on their list alongside RB Leipzig centre-back Castello Lukeba.

Liverpool will no doubt be concerned by this development, as it might be hard to turn down the chance to make money from Alexander-Arnold’s exit while they still can, even if losing such an important player in the middle of the season also seems pretty unthinkable.

Trent Alexander-Arnold transfer: What’s the best strategy for Liverpool?

LFC are in a bad situation here, as there simply doesn’t seem to be any good outcome for them unless Alexander-Arnold signs a new contract pretty soon.

The Merseyside giants surely can’t lose a big name like this on a free, as his market value could be somewhere in the region of £100m.

Alexander-Arnold is undoubtedly one of the best players in the world in his position, and replacing him could also cost the club a fortune.

Real Madrid will no doubt want the very best players in each position, so the England international makes sense as a priority, and it could be that their poor recent form makes them feel it’s worth bringing their plans to sign him forward.

Lukeba would be another superb addition for Los Blancos if they could pull it off, with something clearly needed to change the club’s fortunes after back to back home defeats to Barcelona and AC Milan.

Liverpool will not part ways with Federico Chiesa or Wataru Endo in January despite the duo not being key to the impressive start to life for Arne Slot at Anfield.

The Dutch coach currently has the Reds top of both the Premier League and Champions League tables, while the Merseyside outfit have also reached the quarter-finals of the Carabao Cup.

A big part in Slot’s success with Liverpool so far is the fact that the former Feyenoord boss knows his best 11 and hasn’t rotated heavily throughout the opening part of the campaign.

Two players that have not played a big role in the Reds’ season have been Chiesa and Endo, with injury issues allowing the Italian to play just 78 minutes, while the Japanese international has racked up 163 minutes of action across seven games.

Despite this, Slot will not sell the duo in January and has blocked clubs from trying to lure the stars away, reports Football Insider. The Dutch coach does not want to weaken his squad in any way, therefore, the Liverpool pair are expected to stay.

Both have been linked with moves away from Anfield in recent months and interest is likely to remain heading into 2025.

Arne Slot keen to keep Trent Alexander-Arnold for the remainder of the season

Trent Alexander-Arnold has also been linked with a January exit amid interest in the full-back from Real Madrid, however, the report states that the 26-year-old will be going nowhere until at least next summer.

The full-back is out of contract at the end of this season and there has been no concrete update on the defender receiving a new deal, although work continues to be done behind the scenes.

Everyone in the football world has been impressed with the start Slot has made at Liverpool and in order to continue it, it is key that the new Liverpool boss keeps his squad together.

Liverpool players Trent Alexander-Arnold, Virgil van Dijk and Mohamed Salah all face an uncertain future at the club.

They have entered the final year of their contract at Anfield and their long term future at the club has still not been sorted.

The Reds would want all the three players to stay at the club and support new manager Arne Slot in the brilliant work he is currently doing at Anfield but the players may have other things on their mind regarding their future.

Alexander-Arnold has been linked with a move to Real Madrid while the Saudi Pro League have intentions to sign Salah and make him the face of the league.

Liverpool legend Mark Lawrenson has opened up on who he feels will stay at the club and who will leave.

Lawrenson feels Alexander-Arnold might be heading out of the club to play with his friend Jude Bellingham at Real Madrid and the club’s priority should be keeping Van Dijk.

He said, as reported by Liverpool.com:

“Van Dijk is the most important player to sign. He’s the rock of the defence, sorts out the dressing room, all those kinds of things. Still a top, top player. And then I would go with Salah after him.

“I think Trent will let his contract run out. I think the world knows, and it’s probably the worst-kept secret in the world, that his big mate (Jude Bellingham) plays for Real Madrid. He’s an intelligent boy, very well schooled, etc. He might just turn around and go, ‘you know what boys, I’m going to go and play in Spain’. Because why not?

Liverpool defender Trent Alexander-Arnold
Trent Alexander-Arnold to leave Liverpool? (Photo by Carl Recine/Getty Images)

“Because don’t they win the Champions League every year, to widen your horizons, all those other kinds of things. It’s only a gut thing but I hear it more and more often now that they might have already had a conversation. So I wouldn’t be surprised. And Conor Bradley looks like he’s going to be a really good player as well in Trent’s position. So it wouldn’t be the end of the world, would it?”

Alexander-Arnold has been in fine form this season and Slot has improved the defensive aspect of his game.

He is a key member of the starting line up at the club and it would be a major blow for the Reds to lose him and that too as a free agent.

By the start of January, the Liverpool defender will be able to negotiate a pre-agreement contract with any other club and that would put the Merseyside club in a weak position.

Perhaps Lawrenson knows something that we don’t know about the future of the Reds star but one thing is clear, with every passing week, the probability of Alexander-Arnold leaving the club is increasing.

Can Liverpool replace Trent Alexander-Arnold?

He is a special player who helps the team tick and contributes in the attacking third while playing in defense.

His set-piece taking ability is one of the best in the league and currently the Reds would struggle without him in that area.

Conor Bradley is a decent back up but he would need time to improve his game and come close to playing like Alexander-Arnold.

Liverpool are sitting at the top of the league after beating Brighton on Saturday at Anfield.

They could not have a better matchday since both Arsenal and Manchester City suffered defeats at the hands of Newcastle United and Bournemouth respectively.

Arne Slot’s side moved two points clear at the top of the league with Cody Gakpo and Mohamed Salah inspiring the team to victory against Brighton.

Soon, the focus will shift towards the contract situation of some of the Liverpool players who are facing an uncertain future at the club.

Trent Alexander-Arnold, Mohamed Salah and Virgil van Dijk have all entered the final year of their contract at the club and speculation about their future is growing with every passing week.

Football pundit and former Liverpool defender Jamie Carragher is confident that Salah and Van Dijk will decide to stay at the club but Alexander-Arnold may move to Real Madrid who are interested in signing the English defender.

Carragher said, as quoted by the BBC and reported by The Mirror:

“I’m pretty confident that the two older lads [Virgil Van Dijk and Mohammed Salah] will sign. They’re at a stage where it’s difficult to move on to a better club than Liverpool.

“When I played, the two only clubs where players would want to move on to were the Spanish giants but I don’t really see that now for Virgil and Mo – who will be desperate to break as many records as he can.

“Trent is in a different situation, so that’s the one most people will be worried about with the interest from Real Madrid and the fact that Dani Carvajal has done his ACL.”

Has Trent Alexander-Arnold made up his mind to leave Liverpool?

The fans would be worried after hearing the comments from Carragher about one of their best players this season.

Alexander-Arnold is a boyhood Liverpool fan but he has been linked with a move to La Liga and Champions League winners Real Madrid where his best friend Jude Bellingham plays.

The chance to play with his mate and for one of the biggest clubs in world football might be too difficult to reject for the England international.

He could walk straight into the team at the Santiago Bernabeu due to Dani Carvajal’s long term injury.

By the start of January, Alexander-Arnold will be able to negotiate a pre-contract agreement with other clubs and if the Reds are seriously interested in keeping him, they need to act fast.
