Is that really the calibre of player United need to take that step up to competing for the title again and playing in the Champions League?

Davies may be expensive but could also be worth paying that extra cost, or else he’s surely only going to go and strengthen another major European club.

Player sales could surely help United to afford Davies, who is one of the best in the world on his day and probably pretty justified in asking for big wages.

Ben Chilwell doesn’t appear to have much of a future at Chelsea.

The 27-year-old full-back has fallen down the Blues’ pecking order following the arrival of Enzo Maresca earlier this year.

The Italian boss, who seems to favour Marc Cucurella and Renato Viega, has openly admitted he was expecting Chilwell to leave Stamford Bridge in the summer.

And although a move failed to materialise at the time, the English defender, although recently reinstated, still looks to be on his way out.

CaughtOffside exclusively reported that Newcastle United had internally discussed signing the out-of-favour Chelsea left-back during the summer window.

West Ham interested in signing Ben Chilwell

The latest report comes from Ekrem Konur though. According to the transfer journalist, Julen Lopetegui’s West Ham are the latest side to join the race for the 27-year-old.

Although the Hammers have yet to open talks with their London rivals over a possible deal, their interest is genuine and could prompt a mid-season approach.

Along with Newcastle and West Ham United, former club Leicester City, now managed by Steve Cooper, have also been linked.

The Milton Keynes-born full-back is to open to leaving Stamford Bridge and wouldn’t rule out a switch to any of the sides currently tracking him.

During his four years with the Blues, Chilwell, who has two-and-a-half years left on his £200,000-per week deal, has scored nine goals and registered 12 assists in 107 games in all competitions.

Chelsea manager, Enzo Maresca, clearly isn’t bothered about winning any friends in West London, and this time he’s directed his ire at captain, Reece James.

The Italian has been brutally honest when dealing with players so far, and dependant on one’s point of view, that’s either a breath of fresh air or completely the wrong way to go about things.

He also doesn’t appear to be interested in anyone else’s opinion as to how to do his job, and is clearly more than happy to back players when others might consider them to be underperforming or perhaps surplus to requirements.

Enzo Maresca challenges Reece James to give more

Maresca knows his own mind, is confident enough to speak it when required, and perhaps that’s the type of strong mentality that the Blues had lacked under the likes of Graham Potter and Mauricio Pochettino et al.

The player that has felt the sharp end of his tongue on this occasion is James, and the manager’s words have hinted that a change could soon be coming in terms of who wears the armband at Stamford Bridge.

“I spoke with him. He’s doing well and progressing, but most of the time a player thinks that because I’m captain I expect that you give me more,” he said in his pre-match press conference for the weekend’s game against Newcastle.

“No. For me, because you are the captain, you have to give more. You have to give more than the rest. I expect it from Reece and his team-mates expect if from him to always give more in terms of leadership.

“Levi Colwill and Marc Cucurella are some of the leaders, also Tosin. Levi is fantastic and you can see that he is one of the guys that is always speaking. We need to build on that.”

Maresca has effectively thrown down the gauntlet to the right-back in what can only be perceived as another stunning rant.

The back-handed threat of losing the captaincy could well see James step up and grow more into the role as his manager would prefer.

Or, he could retreat more into his shell and find that he’s cast aside just in the way that Ben Chilwell and others have been.

Euro giants eyeing Chelsea star for January transfer window, Blues very keen to sell

Borussia Dortmund are reportedly showing an interest in the potential transfer of Chelsea left-back Ben Chilwell, while they also have Bournemouth’s Milos Kerkez on their list in that position.

Dortmund could probably do with signing a new left-back after they had Ian Maatsen on loan from Chelsea last season, though the Dutchman didn’t end up staying with the club this summer, instead moving to Aston Villa in a permanent transfer deal.

It now looks like the Bundesliga giants could try raiding Chelsea again, however, with Chilwell in their sights as the Blues are very keen to let the England international go, according to Team Talk.

Chilwell could end up being a fine signing for Dortmund or other top clubs, but the big question mark will be over his fitness, as he’s had numerous injury problems during his time at Stamford Bridge.

Still, if Chilwell can stay fit and get back to his best, it’s easy to imagine him being an asset for a club like Dortmund, while there would also surely be options for him at other big clubs.

CaughtOffside have been told that Chilwell is also still on Manchester United’s list of left-back targets for this January, so it could still be that we’ll see him stay in the Premier League.

Man Utd could do with Chilwell as an upgrade on the injury-prone and inconsistent Luke Shaw, though one imagines Chelsea would rather sell the former Leicester City man abroad if possible.

Dortmund might also be seen as a more tempting option for Chilwell, who’d get the chance to play Champions League football there, whereas United are only in the Europa League and enduring a difficult season under Erik ten Hag, whose long-term future as MUFC manager remains in some doubt.

West Ham United are reportedly keen on the Chelsea defender Ben Chilwell.

The 27-year-old defender has struggled to hold down a regular starting spot at Stamford Bridge and a move away from the club would be ideal.

According to a report from TBR Football, Chilwell is not a part of Enzo Maresca’s plans going forward and it would be ideal for him to move on.

The player has been linked with clubs like Manchester United as well and Chelsea are willing to sanction a loan exit in January.

The likes of Crystal Palace, Leicester City, West Ham United, Fulham and Brentford are also keeping tabs on his situation. It will be interesting to see if the Hammers can get the deal done.

Ben Chilwell would improve West Ham

West Ham could certainly use more quality and depth in the defensive unit. The 27-year-old Chelsea defender has proven his quality in English football in the past and regular football at West Ham could help him get back to his best.

If he can regain his confidence and form in the coming months, he could prove to be an asset for the Hammers. The fact that he will be available on loan in January makes the move a no-brainer. It would be an inexpensive addition and West Ham will be able to improve their defensive unit.

Chilwell will be desperate for regular football and he will look to prove himself in the English top flight once again. His hunger to succeed will be an added bonus for West Ham if they can get the deal done.

Chelsea paid £50 million to sign the defender and he earns around £200,000-a-week at Stamford Bridge. It is fair to assume that he will have to take a pay cut in order to secure a move away from the club in January. West Ham are unlikely to be able to afford his wages.

Ben Chilwell is not part of Enzo Maresca’s Chelsea plans.

The 27-year-old has lost his place following Maresca’s appointment earlier this year.

Marc Cucurella is the Blues’ preferred left-back with new signing Renato Veiga the Euros-winner’s backup.

Speaking earlier in the summer, Maresca admitted the club tried to offload the struggling full-back.

“The idea for him was to leave,” the Italian said, as quoted by the Independent.

“In the moment that he’s here, he’s one of the squad, he’s training. He will be in the squad tomorrow and hopefully we can give him some minutes.”

Despite failing to leave London in the summer everything still points toward an early Stamford Bridge exit.

Ben Chilwell wanted back at Leicester City

The former England international has two-and-a-half years left on his contract but according to Football Transfers, has emerged as a transfer target for former club Leicester City.

Crystal Palace and Fulham interested in signing expensive Chelsea signing

According to The Sun, Crystal Palace and Fulham have expressed interest in out-of-favour Chelsea defender Ben Chilwell. He is deemed surplus to requirements under Enzo Maresca at Stamford Bridge.

Over the summer, Maresca attempted to negotiate Chilwell’s departure, but no potential buyers showed interest in making an offer.

If Chilwell were to sign with Palace in January, he would face off against Tyrick Mitchell for a spot in Glasner’s starting lineup.

Fulham meanwhile are in search for Antonee Robinson competition and believe they have good chance of signing the 27-year-old who would prefer to stay in London.

Chilwell joined Chelsea in 2020, but his impact has been mainly lackluster due to a string of injuries and extended stints out of the starting lineup. Marc Cucurella has been preferred over the England international since new manager arrived at Stamford Bridge.

Chilwell has been unhappy with his lack of playing time in West London. The 27-year-old may go on loan with the option to buy at the conclusion of the season.

Manchester United are making Chelsea left-back Ben Chilwell their top transfer target as they explore the market for new signings in that area of their squad, CaughtOffside understands.

Sources close to the situation have informed CaughtOffside that Man Utd also have a few other options they’re considering, such as Alphonso Davies, who is nearing the end of his contract at Bayern Munich.

However, Real Madrid are considered the front-runners in the race to sign Davies next summer, so United are particularly keen on Chilwell as he’s likely to be available this January after falling out of the first-team picture at Chelsea.

Despite the England international’s recent struggles at Stamford Bridge, with injuries and a loss of form seeing him fall down the pecking order, there are key figures inside Old Trafford who feel he could revive his career at the club, with an upgrade badly needed on another injury-prone and out-of-form player in the form of Luke Shaw.

One imagines most United fans won’t be that excited by Chilwell, but on his day he’s shown he can be a great player, and it might be that he still has it in him to get back to his best.

Davies would understandably appeal more, but there’s little point in trying to target the Canada international if he’s more or less made up his mind about moving to Madrid, which makes sense as a more tempting destination right now, given the numerous issues and problems at Old Trafford.

CaughtOffside understands that Benfica left-back Alvaro Carreras is also being considered by MUFC, who have a buy-back clause of around €20m for the Spaniard. Elsewhere, Fulham left-back Antonee Robinson is another long-term appreciated player at the club.

According to The Sun, Italian giants Napoli are interested in signing Chelsea left-back Ben Chilwell.

The English defender is considered surplus to requirements at Stamford Bridge by manager Enzo Maresca and he has made it clear that the left-back has no future at the club.

Marc Cucurella is the first choice left-back at the club now and Chilwell has only featured in one game all season which was the Carabao Cup match against Barrow.

The 27-year-old defender was made available for sale by Chelsea in the summer transfer window but a move away from the club failed to materialise for the former Leicester City defender.

Antonio Conte, Premier League winner with Chelsea in the past, is now ready to offer Chilwell an escape route out of Stamford Bridge with the Italian manager a fan of the Blues defender.
