It seems almost inevitable that Viktor Gyokeres’ remarkable goalscoring form will see him land a move to an elite European outfit.

The Sweden international – currently on 27 goal contributions in 18 games in 2024/25 – signalled his talents to the world once more during Sporting CP’s 4-1 demolition of Manchester City.

With the likes of Bayern Munich and Manchester United understood to hold some interest in the forward, a summer transfer window move could very well be on the cards.

It just remains to be seen who will stump up the required funds to meet the 26-year-old’s reported release clause of £83m. Albeit, it’s allegedly possible that Sporting will allow their top striker to depart for as little as £61m in the summer.

Man Utd could compete with FC Bayern

With the Red Devils struggling in the goalscoring department – particularly in the English top-flight – it’s far from surprising to hear of their maintained interest in Gyokeres.

“Manchester United are big competition for Viktor Gyokeres. It’s easier, of course, for United with Ruben Amorim having swapped Sporting CP for Old Trafford,” Christian Falk informed CaughtOffside in his exclusive Fact Files column.

“Also, Bayern already have Harry Kane in the squad, so Gyokeres won’t get so much playing time in Munich, which isn’t a great argument for Vincent Komapany’s side.

“The Red Devils are also interested in another Bayern Munich target in Benjamin Sesko (so you see the club is always competing with the Premier League).”

Bayern Munich have Gyokeres on their shortlist

The Bavarian giants would most certainly provide more than stiff competition for the Primeira Liga star’s services normally.

However, it’s fair to assume that a range of circumstances, not discounting the arrival of former Sporting boss Ruben Amorim at Old Trafford, will run in Manchester United’s favour. Former Red Devils star Dimitar Berbatov certainly seems to feel that this is a distinct likelihood. He told Sky Sports that he suspects the Primeira Liga attacker, currently ‘scoring goals for fun’ in Portugal, may very well join his former boss in Manchester.

Bayern Munich, for their part, are unlikely to stand in their way, should that eventuality come to pass.

“Bayern Munich have a number of strikers on their shortlist: Omar Marmoush, Viktor Gyokeres, Benjamin Sesko and Lois Openda,” Falk said.

“They’re not planning an immediate signing in the near future; it’s a list to keep in mind for the future. They are thinking about signing a striker, perhaps, in 2026. So any club that is moving now for these players has a big advantage whilst Bayern make the most of Harry Kane.”

On current form, too, Bayern Munich may very well have to accept that this top European talent is considerably likely to be snapped up by a top Premier League club in the summer.

The German reporter went on to add: Gyokeres isn’t their top target at the moment, though they are very interested in him. Bayern would prefer to see the Swede stay in Lisbon longer so that they could join the market later for him (when his contract is closer to running out and the price isn’t so high).

“The problem is that he’s playing in the same position as Harry Kane and he’s unlikely to want to stay on the bench behind the England international.

“Still, you see how highly rated he is that Bayern see him as a potential successor to Kane. It’s perhaps too early for Bayern to move in for him, but the interest is concrete.

“I would say that, perhaps, after the match against Manchester City in the Champions League, a move to the Premier League could come more quickly.”

Liverpool are reportedly keen on the French winger Ryan Cherki.

The France under-21 international has been linked with the move away from Lyon in the past and a report from L’Equipe claims that Liverpool have enquired about the playmaker. The Reds have previously shown interest in signing him, but the player dreams of a move to Real Madrid instead.

He has a contract with the French outfit until the summer of 2026, and he is valued at €25 million. It will be interesting to see if Liverpool are ready to pay up for the 21-year-old. They could have signed him for a fee of around €10 million during the summer transfer window before he signed an extension.

Liverpool could certainly use more quality and depth in the attacking unit, and the 21-year-old would be a quality long-term investment for them. He is capable of slotting into the attacking midfield role as well as the role of a winger.

Rayan Cherki could be a useful option

Cherki will add goals and creativity to the Liverpool attack. The opportunity to play in the Premier League could be exciting for him, and he will look to test himself at the highest level. Liverpool are one of the biggest clubs around the world and they could provide him with the platform to push for major trophies as well.

Having a versatile attacker like him could certainly come in handy for the Premier League giants. They will be hoping to compete on multiple fronts and they need a deeper squad. Having flexible players could prove to be invaluable for them during rotation and injuries.

Furthermore, regular football in the Premier League could accelerate his development and help the Frenchman fulfil his potential.

It will be interesting to see how the situation unfolds over the next few months.

Although Chelsea are seven places ahead of London rivals Tottenham Hotspur in the Premier League table just three points separate them, and both clubs will rival the other for the signature of a talented Premier League centre-back.

CaughtOffside sources have indicated that despite Bournemouth having only recently tied down Ilya Zabarnyi to a deal which keeps him with the Cherries until 2029, they will listen to clubs willing to offer around £50m for the Ukrainian.

Tottenham and Chelsea want Zabarnyi

Sources indicate that the North Londoners have been tracking the player for a while and are eager to add him to their squad.

Ange Postecoglou certainly has the Lilywhites playing some of their best football in many a year, however, the same could be said of Enzo Maresca’s impact at Stamford Bridge.

The Italian is also thought to be a huge fan of the defender’s playing capabilities and would make room for him in an ever-expanding Chelsea squad.

Of course, Bournemouth’s financial demands are factors that could complicate the transfer process, notwithstanding that sources further advance that both Tottenham and Chelsea are apparently willing to meet those requirements.

Chelsea star admits he doesn’t really remember one of the biggest nights of his career! Read all about it here

Chelsea are already looking at beating Arsenal to one of their prime targets, whilst Tottenham could agree a pre-contract with a former Man United ace.

Zabarnyi has played in all 11 of Bournemouth’s Premier League games this season (transfermarkt), and his excellence in defence has see the South Coast side beat reigning champions Man City amongst others.

Andoni Iraola and his board clearly see the player as someone that should be staying at the club for the longer term, but are not in a position to keep him if any of their opponents come up with an offer that they can’t refuse.

From the player’s point of view, sources understand that he would be willing to make the move to the capital but is equally content at the Vitality Stadium, should any of the rumours come to nothing.

Arsenal defender Jakub Kiwior has been linked with a move away from the club in recent months.

The 24-year-old central defender has fallen down the pecking order at the North London club and he needs to leave in search of regular playing time. Clubs in Italy are keen on securing his services and they are monitoring his situation.

They could be keen to provide him with an exit route in January and the player is most likely to see an exit in the coming weeks. According to Football Insider, Kiwior is likely to push for a move away from Arsenal when the transfer window reopens.

The Gunners were hoping to sell him permanently, but they are aware of the fact that it would be difficult to find a permanent destination for the defender. They are now prepared to send him out on loan with the option to buy. It remains to be seen where he ends up.

Jakub Kiwior would be a handy option

The 24-year-old has shown his quality in Italy before, and he could prove to be a useful acquisition for most clubs. He needs to play regularly at this stage of his career and sitting on the bench at Arsenal is unlikely to benefit him. It will be interesting to see if he can find a club willing to provide him with regular team action. It is clear that he does not have a future at Arsenal and he needs to leave the club permanently in the near future.

The defender will be hoping to sort out his long-term future and focus on his football now. However, he needs to regain his form and confidence. A loan spell would be ideal for him right now. If he manages to impress during his loan spell, he should be able to secure a permanent move away from the North London club in the summer.

Another Brazilian talent could soon be heading to English shores, but Crystal Palace face fierce Premier League competition to land Botofogo baller, Luiz Henrique.

CaughtOffside sources have indicated the the €30m-rated ace has drawn interest from a number of top clubs across Europe but his preference is to hone his talents in the English top-flight.

Crystal Palace keen on Luiz Henrique

Fulham and Everton are also reported to be keeping tabs on the 23-year-old baller, and all three Premier League sides have had scouts at the recent Botafogo matches against Cuiaba-MT and Vasco da Gama.

Sources say that all three have been impressed with the level of the right wingers performances and could be set to test the water with an offer.

It’s understood that the Brazilian club are not prioritising his sale at present as they know that Henrique’s potential and skillset make him a valuable asset in the transfer market.

Therefore, maximising his value will be uppermost in their thinking.

Palace and Leicester warned against hiring former Man United manager

More and more young Brazilian stars are making their way to Europe to further their careers.

Endrick has lit up the Santiago Bernabeu already with brief cameos at Real Madrid, and players like Luis Guilherme (West Ham United) and Estevao Willian (Chelsea in 2025) will surely do the same in due course.

Those more experienced, such as Raphinha – now finding his feet at Barcelona – and Vini Jr/Rodrygo at Real Madrid, are a blueprint for what’s possible if youngsters continue to work hard.

It isn’t clear at this stage if Oliver Glasner will still be in place as Palace manager by the time Botafogo are ready to do business, however, there remains a link between the two clubs in John Textor.

Textor currently owns 46 percent of the Eagles and is also majority shareholder at Botafogo. Though Goal report he’s willing to sell his Palace shares, he’s likely to still have a say in any Luiz Henrique transfer.

If the South Londoners can also land one outgoing Chelsea ace and a defender with an £83m release clause as well as Luiz Henrique, it could yet be a successful 2024/25 campaign for them.

Liverpool and Tottenham Hotspur are keen on signing the Real Sociedad winger Takefusa Kubo.

The 23-year-old winger has attracted the attention of the top European clubs with his performances for the La Liga club, and it will be interesting to see if the likes of Liverpool at Tottenham can lure him away from Spain.

As per Fichajes, the winger has a €60 million release clause in his contract, and it will be interesting to see if the English clubs are willing to pay up. Real Sociedad are unlikely to let him leave for cheap. He is a key player for them, and he has a contract with the club until the summer of 2029.

Liverpool could certainly use a young winger like him, especially if Mohamed Salah decides to move on. Kubo operates in a similar role to that of the Egyptian international. He has attributes to develop into a top quality player in future and he could be an asset for Liverpool in the long term.

Meanwhile, Tottenham could look to add more depth to their attacking unit. The 23-year-old will certainly add unpredictability to their attack. He has shown his quality in Spanish football, and there is no doubt that he has the technical attributes to make a big difference in the Premier League as well.

Kubo might fancy Premier League switch

The opportunity to play in England could be quite attractive for the Japanese international and it remains to be seen where he ends up. Both clubs will be attractive destinations for him. They could provide him with the platform to fight for major trophies in the coming seasons.

Liverpool and Tottenham need to improve their squads if they want to fight for major trophies consistently and signings like Kubo will certainly help them progress.

Tottenham have been linked with a move for former Manchester United midfielder Angel Gomes next summer.

With his current contract expiring in the summer, the player will be free to speak to other clubs in January ahead of a potential free transfer in the summer.

Spurs insider John Wenham has now backed the club to sign a pre-contract with the player as his current contract with Lille comes close to expiration.

Gomes is an exciting young talent who has been on the radar of several clubs recently. A product of Manchester United academy, Gomes made his first-team debut at just 16 years old, displaying his flair and technical ability. However, he struggled to secure a regular spot in the senior side, and was eventually moved to Ligue 1 with Lille in 2020, where he was given a fresh platform to grow.

His performances in the 2022-23 season, showed his ability to play in a competitive league, further developing his game and earning a reputation as one of the brightest young players in Europe.

A versatile attacking midfielder, Gomes has the ability to operate in central or wide positions, adding dynamism to any team.

John Wenham says Tottenham could agree a pre-contract with Angel Gomes

He has started to attract interest from several top clubs, including Spurs, Arsenal and Chelsea. Tottenham insider, John Wenham has backed the club to sign a pre-contract with him despite interest from London rivals.

Speaking to Tottenham News, the club insider said:

“Gomes would count as homegrown, as he came through Manchester United’s academy.

“He would be available on a free transfer next summer. Therefore, Tottenham could agree a pre-contract with him in January.

“By signing him for free and agreeing a five-year contract with him, he would be worth £15million right away, simply based on the value attached to that contract.”

Tottenham have been said to be interested in signing another midfielder, despite having the likes of Lucas Bergvall and Archie Gray. And Gomes could turn out to be a decent signing for Ange’s side.

Aston Villa goalkeeper Emiliano Martinez has confirmed his loyalty to the club, expressing a desire to continue representing Villa despite interest from other teams and encouragement from his father to consider new challenges.

Since joining from Arsenal in 2020, Martinez has been a transformative figure for Villa, fortifying their defence with his commanding presence and impressive shot-stopping ability.

Martinez’s career took off at Aston Villa after struggling for playing time at Arsenal. He quickly established himself as one of the Premier League’s top goalkeepers, helping Villa avoid relegation threats and steadily climb the standings.

His performances also earned him domestic recognition as well as international, winning the Copa America with Argentina in 2021 and later the 2022 FIFA World Cup, where his penalty saves were instrumental in Argentina’s triumph.

Emiliano Martinez is staying loyal to Aston Villa

Despite growing interest from other clubs, Martinez has reaffirmed his commitment to Aston Villa, crediting the club for helping him reach new heights.

Speaking to L’Equipe, he said:

“Earlier in my career, when I was on loan, I couldn’t express myself as much, although I’ve always been very mature.

“Since arriving at Aston Villa, I’ve embraced these new responsibilities. That’s why I’m staying loyal to this club, it’s allowed me to reach a higher level.”

Martinez is a born leader and his leadership traits are visible by his antics on and off the pitch. He leads the team from the back, for both the club and the country.

He further spoke about his leadership and how his managers allow him to take the charge in the dressing room.

Martinez discusses his leadership style behind-the-scenes

“My coaches also send a lot of positive vibes, by giving the players freedom. Lionel Scaloni doesn’t intervene when the players speak, while Unai Emery likes to take the initiative. He lowers the pressure, and I always speak after him.

“Before big games, I remind the guys where they come from, the sacrifices they’ve made and the dreams they had as kids.”

“In the dressing room, I never shout, I support. I like to take the pressure from the opposing fans so that my teammates can play freely.

This will come as a big boost for Aston Villa who have become a top team under Unai Emery. They have made a fantastic start to their Champions League campaign with 3 wins out of 4 games, sitting 8th in the table, level on points with the likes of Barcelona, and Borussia Dortmund, and just one point behind 2nd placed Sporting.

Manchester United are already planning for future transfer activity under the guidance of their new manager, Ruben Amorim. Reports suggest that Sporting Lisbon’s standout winger, Pedro Goncalves, is on the club’s radar for the next summer window.

Amorim, who recently signed a contract with United through 2027 earlier this month, has expressed a keen interest in bolstering the squad.

Manchester United monitoring Pedro Goncalves

According to the Mirror, the Red Devils are closely monitoring Goncalves, a player who played a vital role in Amorim’s successful tenure at Sporting.

Sporting Lisbon, however, has made their stance clear by setting an €80 million valuation on their star player, who remains contracted with the club until 2027.

Goncalves, who is currently an injury concern for Sporting, was a standout performer last season, scoring 18 goals and contributing 17 assists over 49 appearances in all competitions, aiding Sporting in securing the league title.

His impressive form has carried into the current season, where he has already netted five goals and provided six assists in 12 matches, solidifying his status as one of the best players in Portuguese football.

Amorim’s respect for Goncalves is well-documented, having praised the winger’s talent and adaptability during his final press conference at Sporting after an exciting 4-2 comeback win against Braga.

The 39-year-old manager emphasised the player’s’ potential to thrive in any team and hold his own among the world’s elite, underscoring his high-level capabilities.

Ruben Amorim will not raid Sporting in January

While United supporters may be eager to see a swift transfer, Amorim has confirmed that there will be no pursuit of Sporting players during the January window.

Nonetheless, he hinted that the summer could present an opportunity for such moves, positioning Goncalves as a key potential signing to bolster United’s attacking options.

Another player Amorim could turn to is Viktor Gyokeres, who recently scored a hat-trick against Manchester City in the UEFA Champions League.

West Ham United defender Vladimir Coufal has admitted frustration at his current lack of playing time.

The Czech Republic international has been with the Hammers since joining from Slavia Prague in 2020.

Coufal quickly established himself as the first-choice right-back and to date, has made 162 appearances for the Hammers across all competitions, helping them win the 2023 Uefa Conference League.

This season, however, he’s clocked up just two starts, five appearances and 223 minutes in the Premier League, with his only other two starts coming in the EFL Cup.

New manager Julen Lopetegui has favoured summer signing Aaron Wan-Bissaka in Coufal’s position, with the former Man Utd defender playing 10 times in the league so far.

At 32 years old, Coufal will want to keep playing regular minutes as much as possible while he still can.

The experienced defender is now on international duty and has spoken to the Czech media about his recent frustrations — although he insists there is no bad blood between him and Lopetegui.

“When I talked to the coach (Julen Lopetegui), he told me that he was extremely happy with me. That he is convinced that I will get more minutes, more chances and start playing, that I am a great professional,” said Coufal (via Sport Witness).

“I can’t say a bad word against the coach, or he has against me, it’s just that we don’t have a good time on the pitch yet. If it should continue like this, we have to sit down and see what to do next. I definitely don’t want to sit on the bench, I still feel like I can play in the Premier League.”

Right now, Coufal’s focus will remain on his duties with the Czech Republic, who take on Albania and Georgia in the Uefa Nations League during the latest international break.
