Chelsea midfielder Carney Chukwuemeka is reportedly attracting transfer interest from Ipswich Town, according to Simon Phillips via Substack.

Chukwuemeka supposedly knows it’s “game over” for him at Stamford Bridge after a total lack of playing time under new manager Enzo Maresca this season.

The talented England youth international arrived at Chelsea with a big reputation after impressing at Aston Villa, but it just hasn’t happened for him since his move to west London.

According to Phillips, it now seems Chukwuemeka could move on, with Ipswich joining the likes of Barcelona and AC Milan as suitors for the 21-year-old.

The report adds that Chukwuemeka has a preference for staying in the Premier League, and in London if possible, so it will be interesting to see how this saga develops in the weeks ahead.

Carney Chukwuemeka exit to help with future Chelsea deal?

Another interesting detail that Phillips notes in his report is that Chelsea remain long-standing admirers of Ipswich striker Liam Delap.

Delap has been in fine form for Ipswich in recent times and if Chukwuemeka goes there, it could be useful for the Blues if they decide to pursue a deal in the future.

It’s a bit early to say for sure how this could all pan out, but it perhaps makes sense for CFC to build good relationships with the Tractor Boys if possible, as Delap certainly looks like a talent worth keeping a close eye on.

The 21-year-old looked a promising talent during his time at Manchester City, though he couldn’t quite break into their first-team on a regular basis, which is hardly surprising given the competition for places in Pep Guardiola’s side.

Delap is now impressing at Ipswich, though, so Chelsea might do well to snap him up in future, and they could even end up having a slight advantage if all goes well with Chukwuemeka.

Manchester City remain innocent until proven guilty of any of the 115 charges being levied against them, however, their Premier League opponents will sue them if they are, ultimately, found guilty.

The fall out from the case which is currently ongoing could change the face of English football as we know it.

Man City could be sued for many millions by EPL clubs

An unprecedented punishment against the Cityzens has already been mooted, with other potential avenues for taking the serial champions down a peg or two also being discussed.

Arguably, any and all discussions are irrelevant at this stage given that City haven’t yet been found guilty of a single charge.

Man City will be sued by their EPL opponents

Given the severity of the charges, it will take some time before any decision is reached in any event, and were the outcome to be unfavourable to City, there’s some certainty to the club launching an appeal, delaying the outcome even further.

According to The Times (subscription required), a number of Premier League clubs are reserving the right to seek compensation for lost earnings were City to be found guilty.

Man City’s former financial advisor had a lot to say about the outcome of the ongoing trial. Find out what he said here!

Essentially, some clubs will have been denied the right to finances that a title win would’ve seen them achieve, and/or the prize money involved in qualifying for the latter stages of European competitions.

There is a need for those clubs to protect their positions now given that its understood they could be time barred from doing so if they wait until the end of the trial and/or a subsequent appeal.

Any potentially successful cases against City would cost the club many millions of pounds, though the loss of prestige would be far more humbling for the club.

Such scenarios may not even come to pass if City’s legal team manage to ensure that the club’s name, and that of their directors emerge successfully from the case.

Leicester City are reportedly keen to sign Jack Clarke from Premier League rivals Ipswich Town.

The 23-year-old has emerged as a top transfer target for Steve Cooper following a shaky start to life at the King Power.

Replacing Enzo Maresca in the summer, Cooper, despite having experience in the top flight having guided Nottingham Forest back to the big time two seasons ago, has endured a tough start to the season.

After winning just one of their first seven league games, the Foxes remain in the bottom half of the table. However, beating fellow relegation strugglers Bournemouth and Southampton and drawing against Kieran McKenna’s Tractor Boys has eased some of the pressure on Cooper.

Leicester City eyeing shock Jack Clarke transfer

Despite his side’s recent upturn in form, the manager’s attention has already turned to the January transfer window, and according to The Sun, to Ipswich’s Clarke.

The former Sunderland winger, who signed for McKenna’s side in the summer in a deal worth a reported £15 million, has already featured in nine games for the Tractor Boys. He has yet to score but has managed to register an assist.

The 23-year-old has four-and-a-half years left on his contract and is valued around £20 million, although given Leicester City’s desperation, Ipswich could bump their asking price right up.

It was recently reported that former Leeds United midfielder Kalvin Phillips is seeking to cut short his loan at Ipswich Town in favour of a return to Elland Road.

However, Ipswich manager Kieran McKenna quickly put these rumours to bed, clarifying Phillips’ current situation and shushing any immediate hopes of a reunion with Leeds.

Phillips’ high-profile transfer £49 move to Manchester City in 2022, was a departure that left many Leeds fans disappointed. But, while he collected both Premier League and Champions League medals with City, his career at Etihad did not unfold as he thought it would.

Limited appearances and a challenging loan spell at West Ham United—marked by inconsistent displays and some off-field controversies—left the England international seeking a fresh start this season with Ipswich Town.

McKenna says Kalvin Phillips’ exit rumours are “proper nonsense”

Addressing the rumours directly, McKenna emphasised that Phillips’ return to Leeds is not in the cards, labelling the reports as “absolute nonsense” and clarifying that there has been no discussion about ending the midfielder’s Ipswich spell prematurely.

Instead, McKenna highlighted Phillips’ positive impact on the Ipswich squad, indicating that the midfielder is an essential piece of his team as the club fights to climb out of the relegation zone.

As quoted via Leeds Live, McKenna said:

“What can I say on that? Proper, proper nonsense.”

“I learned quite a while ago in football that you can write something online and it circulates and gets picked up by quite a lot of media outlets and then it becomes a story. It’s absolute nonsense. There have been no conversations of the like and I think it’s a real, real shame. He had a very good game.”

Since joining Ipswich in August on a season-long loan, Phillips has started in six Premier League games, providing valuable experience to the team despite them struggling at the bottom.

McKenna’s comments suggest that he remains determined to keep Phillips focused on Ipswich’s ongoing campaign, signalling a commitment to their top-flight survival efforts.

With Manchester City keen on offloading him permanently, Leeds will likely continue to follow Phillips’ progress closely at the end of the season, keeping the door open for a future Elland Road comeback and the chance to see him don the Leeds shirt once again.

Erik ten Hag is surely running out of time as Manchester United manager, and it now seems Ruben Amorim is the growing favourite for the job.

The Sporting Lisbon manager was strongly linked with big jobs in the summer, such as Liverpool, Chelsea and West Ham at various points, though he ended up staying in Portugal at that point.

There’s also been some talk that Manchester City could make Amorim their top candidate to replace Pep Guardiola if he leaves in the near future, particularly as Sporting’s technical director Hugo Viana is heading to the Etihad Stadium to replace Txiki Begiristain from next season.

It remains to be seen if Ten Hag’s future could mean Man United swoop for Amorim, and he’s now shot into pole position for the job, based on bookies odds.

Next Manchester United manager: Ruben Amorim, or someone closer to home?

Other more familiar names are also being linked with United at the moment, including some of their former players, and some with Premier League experience.

See below for the full list of candidates and their latest odds, courtesy of Ladbrokes…

Next Manchester United Manager Odds (Ladbrokes)
Ruben Amorim – 5/2
Ruud van Nistelrooy – 7/2
Thomas Frank – 8/1
Gareth Southgate – 10/1
Kieran McKenna – 10/1
Michael Carrick – 10/1

United fans will hope a change comes soon as it just doesn’t look like Ten Hag is the man to take the club forward.

Amorim looks like he could be a major upgrade after doing great work at Sporting, and it would be intriguing to see him test himself at a higher level.

The 39-year-old will surely get other big offers if MUFC don’t move for him, so they might want to be quick, or else they could find themselves in the situation again where they miss out on one of their top targets, with Thomas Tuchel another who got away recently as he instead became England manager.

It’s clear that former England international, Kalvin Phillips, hasn’t made a good impression at Ipswich, with senior club figures apparently believing his head’s “still at Leeds.”

According to Capology, Phillips earns a whopping £150,000 per week, which is £110,000 more than next highest earner, Axel Tuanzebe.

For that sort of spend, the Tractor Boys would have expected to see some of the form shown by Phillips during his time at Leeds and with the national team.

Kalvin Phillips’ head is “still at Leeds”

However, he’s a player that has evidently lost his confidence, with Football Insider quoting sources as saying they are “amazed” at the player’s lack of mobility.

The outlet go on to note that there’s a belief that he very obviously wants a move back to Elland Road.

That might not be on the cards after Phillips told Crysencio Summerville to move to West Ham.

Ipswich really should’ve done their homework before signing the midfielder too.

Kalvin Phillips has been lambasted for his performances

He had a disastrous loan spell at West Ham, and even when Rodri got injured and ruled out for the season, Man City still didn’t want Phillips to play in his stead.

With eight games played in the current Premier League season, Ipswich find themselves fourth from bottom and still without a win.

Four draws and four losses are the sum total of their performances so far in 2024/25, with Phillips only completing one full 90 minute appearance during that time.

To that end, given that it’s clear Ipswich aren’t getting value for money, they could look to return the player earlier than expected.

His career has certainly peaked and if Leeds are able to get back up to the Premier League in time for the start of the 2025/26 campaign, they may well look beyond their old boy to help consolidate them back in the top-flight in any event.

Tottenham are considering a January transfer window move for Ipswich Town striker Liam Delap, who could have an asking price of around €40million, and who is also on the radar of other top clubs.

Sources with a close understanding of the situation have informed CaughtOffside that Spurs are leading the race for Delap at the moment, though the 21-year-old’s fine form has also seen him attract some interest from other top Premier League clubs in the form of Arsenal, Newcastle United, Aston Villa, and his former club Manchester City.

Delap largely came up through Derby County’s academy, though he also spent five years at Man City, making a total of six appearances and scoring one goal for their first-team, and mostly going out on loan a few times.

Still, Delap has improved a lot in recent times and Tottenham are particularly keen to snap him up, with Ipswich understood to be prepared to evaluate offers for the England Under-21 international this January.

Liam Delap transfer: Tottenham to make another signing up front?

Tottenham signed Dominic Solanke in the summer to give them more of a goal threat up front, but it’s fair to say he’s been a little underwhelming so far.

Solanke shone for Bournemouth last season, but has just three goals in his first eight games for Spurs, so Ange Postecoglou might do well to bring in someone like Delap as an alternative.

THFC sold Harry Kane almost a year and a half ago, and it was never going to be easy to replace him, but it might be worth investing in a talented young English player like Delap, who looks in some ways like a young Kane.

It will be interesting to see if others like Arsenal and Newcastle also step up their interest in Delap in the near future, but it’s felt that Tottenham’s interest is the most concrete for the time being.

Liverpool are ready to listen to transfer offers in the €15-20million range for Japanese midfielder Wataru Endo, who is also open to leaving for a club who can guarantee him regular playing time, CaughtOffside understands.

Ipswich Town, Fulham, and Wolves are closely monitoring Endo’s situation ahead of the January transfer window, with the 31-year-old looking likely to be available as he’s not currently looking like being a key member of Arne Slot’s squad.

Endo’s priority would be to join a team where he gets a lot of playing time, so it will be interesting to see who can offer that to him, and if anyone is willing to come up with a figure of around €15-20m for a player who’ll be turning 32 later this season.

The Japan international started well at Liverpool under Jurgen Klopp last season, but there is a lot of competition for places at Anfield and it looks like Slot doesn’t have much space for him, based on what we’ve seen so far this term.

Wataru Endo of Liverpool

Still, the season is long and there will surely be injuries and suspensions to contend with for LFC, which might mean they’d be well-advised to keep hold of an experienced squad player like Endo.

Wataru Endo transfer: Is he heading towards the Liverpool exit door?

Endo has shown enough quality in his brief time in the Premier League that would surely convince a few clubs to take a gamble on him, but they surely won’t want to pay too much for someone who would be unlikely to represent a particularly long-term option.

Marseille also notably had a bid rejected for Endo in the summer, with the Merseyside giants turning down €14m for the player at that time.

For now, CaughtOffside have not been given any indication that Marseille will come back in for Endo, with most of the interest in him now coming from clubs in the Premier League.

Chelsea are reportedly eyeing up the potential transfer of Ipswich Town striker Liam Delap has he impresses in the Premier League so far this season.

The talented 21-year-old is a former Manchester City youngster, so is someone Enzo Maresca and other key figures at Stamford Bridge know well as they start to monitor him as a potential target, according to journalist Simon Phillips via his Substack.

With Delap now making a name for himself at the very highest level after previously struggling for playing time at Man City and going out on loan to Championship clubs a few times, it’s not too surprising that a big name like Chelsea are now interested.

The Blues previously did very well to sign Cole Palmer from City when he’d also failed to make much of an impact in their first-team, with the 22-year-old now a star player for the west London giants and a full England international.

Liam Delap transfer could hinge on another Chelsea striker decision

Although Delap has his admirers at Chelsea, it is not yet certain if he’ll end up being a priority target for them any time soon, as there are other names also being considered.

CFC also like big names such as Viktor Gyokeres, Benjamin Sesko and Evan Ferguson, but Delap also seems like a name well worth keeping an eye on.

It’s also explained that Chelsea won’t necessarily rush into a striker signing, as it may depend on how the form of Nicolas Jackson continues over the course of this season.

The Senegalese youngster was inconsistent in his first campaign at the Bridge, but looks much improved this term, while Christopher Nkunku has also shone when he’s had the chance, having missed a lot of his first year at the club through injury.

Delap has impressed at Ipswich, though, so it will be interesting to see if he can keep up this form and earn himself a big move to Chelsea or perhaps another of the big six clubs.

The latest Premier League team of the week is here, and it’s perhaps slightly surprising that there aren’t more Tottenham players after their impressive 3-0 win away to Manchester United, though Micky van de Ven made it in to the line up.

Chelsea’s Cole Palmer also unsurprisingly made it in to Troy Deeney’s team on BBC Sport after his incredible four-goal haul in the Blues’ win over Brighton, while Manchester City defender Josko Gvardiol also earned a place in the XI.

See below for the team of the week in full, with no Arsenal players making it in despite their win over Leicester City, though two impressive Foxes players from that game did get into the side, with James Justin scoring twice in that defeat at the Emirates Stadium, while goalkeeper Mads Hermansen was in superb form to ensure the Gunners didn’t score even more than the four goals they eventually managed…

BBC Sport Team of the Week

Premier League team of the week is surprisingly short of Tottenham players

While there were plenty of great performers in the Premier League this weekend, it perhaps seems a bit harsh that Spurs didn’t get one or two more names in to this line up after they put on such a show at Old Trafford.

While Man Utd were also very bad on the day, Tottenham still deserve credit for controlling the game as well as they did, with Dejan Kulusevski and Brennan Johnson two other stand-out performers who would have more than merited inclusion in Deeney’s line up.

Arsenal also vastly outplayed Leicester in their game, even if it took them a while to break them down, so Gooners might also feel aggrieved that the likes of Leandro Trossard and Gabriel Martinelli didn’t make the team of the week after picking up goals and assists in an important win after Man City dropped points earlier that same day.
