It’ll probably come as little surprise to many that Ruud van Nistelrooy is being linked with a host of top Premier League jobs.

The Dutchman is now looking for a new role after his short tenure as Manchester United interim manager came to an end.

Van Nistelrooy caught the eye after taking over from Erik ten Hag, warming up the dugout for Ruben Amorim with three wins and a draw from four matches.

United scored 11 goals in his four games in charge; two more than they managed in Ten Hag’s final eight matches.

Van Nistelrooy’s work has now seen him linked with West Ham United, who are struggling under summer arrival Julen Lopetegui.

Meanwhile, relegation battlers Wolves, Southampton and Crystal Palace are among those who are rumoured to be considering new managers. The likes of Steve Cooper and Sean Dyche are only a bad run away from coming under immense pressure at Leicester and Everton, respectively.

However, former Palace chairman Simon Jordan has warned Premier League clubs against opting for Van Nistelrooy — who won KNVB Cup and Johan Cruyff Shield titles during a 51-game spell in charge of PSV Eindhoven.

“If you are Wolves, Palace, Southampton or Leicester and you decide to change your manager, would you look at Ruud van Nistelrooy or would you look at David Moyes?” said Jordan (via TBR).

“I couldn’t see any of those clubs realistically going down the Ruud van Nistelrooy route.”

Jordan further explained: “I don’t think he’s done anything at Man Utd. Three or four games, two of them against Leicester? Against PAOK, in the Europa League? Come on, give me a break.

“I don’t think there is anyone in the Premier League who has got a serious problem is going to turn around and say; ‘You managed to get this [Man United squad] playing decently [so you deserve a chance at another club]’.”

The latest Premier League team of the week is in, with some big names in there from Manchester United, Liverpool and Newcastle United.

Mohamed Salah is somewhat surprisingly the only Reds player to make Troy Deeney’s line up on BBC Sport, despite Arne Slot’s side beating a strong opponent in Aston Villa to go five points clear at the top of the Premier League table.

Liverpool have been absolutely superb since Slot took over from Jurgen Klopp in the summer, and Salah has undoubtedly been one of their stand-out performers, though others also surely did enough to earn a spot in this latest team of the week.

Premier League team of the week in full

See the image above for the team of the week in full, with Man Utd and Newcastle both getting three players each into the side.

United trio Andre Onana, Bruno Fernandes and Noussair Mazraoui were selected by Deeney, while Dan Burn, Alexander Isak and Joelinton of Newcastle all made it in.

Fernandes was certainly impressive in United’s win over Leicester City, while Isak is always a joy to watch for Newcastle, but the absence of more Liverpool players over some of these names does seem a bit harsh as they were also arguably playing stronger opponents.

Brighton also harshly overlooked in team of the week

Brighton only got one player in the team of the week despite beating Man City

Brighton also only had one player in despite beating Manchester City 2-1 in a superb performance.

The Seagulls fully deserved their comeback victory against the reigning Premier League champions, and yet some of their players have clearly gone a little under the radar.

Brighton’s win takes them to 6th in the Premier League table, and they’d actually be third, behind only Liverpool and Man City, if not for having an inferior goal difference to Arsenal, Chelsea and Nottingham Forest.

Despite picking up points against Crystal Palace and Brighton in his last two games, manager Gary O’Neil remains under huge pressure at Wolves.

The 41-year-old has endured a tough start to the season. Failing to win a single game, Wolves remain rooted to the bottom of the table with just three points.

The Midlands-based club are now preparing for a crunch game against fellow strugglers Southampton on Saturday.

Gary O’Neil has one more chance at Wolves

The Saints, like Wolves, are in a dire spot, and after achieving just one win and one draw so far, Russell Martin is also under pressure.

And this weekend’s huge game at Molineux is likely to decide both manager’s fates.

According to a recent report from TBR Football, failure to beat the travelling Saints tomorrow will see owners Fosun sack O’Neil.

The same is likely to happen to Martin if Southampton do not pick up their second win of the season.

Nevertheless, with so much on the line as both clubs look to turn their campaigns around, Saturday’s game, which is scheduled to kick off at 3 p.m. (UK time) is already one of the most important matchups of the season.

Sunderland’s 17-year-old talent Chris Rigg is a name that is starting to become well-known amongst the big clubs in Europe as several continue to monitor the youngster’s progress in the Championship.

The midfielder has established himself as a key player in Regis Le Bris’ side and has played a big role in Sunderland’s impressive start to the season as the Black Cats currently sit top of the Championship after 14 games.

Rigg has featured in 13 of those matches, producing three goals from midfield, which follows his breakthrough season last time around, in which he netted his first two Championship goals.

Rigg has a contract at the Stadium of Light until 2027 and heading into the 2025 transfer windows, sources have told CaughtOffside that Sunderland are keen to keep their 17-year-old talent as they push for promotion to the Premier League.

However, the interest of several of Europe’s biggest clubs put the Black Cats in a difficult position to keep the midfielder as his departure could significantly impact Sunderland, both on and off the pitch.

The Championship club will seek at least €30m for Rigg in 2025 and there are several clubs who might be willing to match their asking price.

Man United and Real Madrid set sights on Sunderland’s Chris Rigg

Man United have been the club that has been linked to Rigg the most in recent weeks with reports stating that the Premier League giants’ scouts have watched the 17-year-old nearly “every week this season”.

The Manchester club will face major competition in their pursuit of the midfield talent as sources have stated that several Premier League clubs are monitoring his progress, which include: Arsenal, Crystal Palace, Chelsea, Brighton, Man City, Newcastle, Liverpool and Wolves.

There is also interest in the Englishman from abroad, which is the route Jude Bellingham took on his path to superstardom.

Real Madrid, Bayer Leverkusen, RB Leipzig and Borussia Dortmund are all believed to have an interest in Rigg and a move to Germany could be exactly what the youngster needs in order to develop his game at the highest level.

Manchester City remain innocent until proven guilty of any of the 115 charges being levied against them, however, their Premier League opponents will sue them if they are, ultimately, found guilty.

The fall out from the case which is currently ongoing could change the face of English football as we know it.

Man City could be sued for many millions by EPL clubs

An unprecedented punishment against the Cityzens has already been mooted, with other potential avenues for taking the serial champions down a peg or two also being discussed.

Arguably, any and all discussions are irrelevant at this stage given that City haven’t yet been found guilty of a single charge.

Given the severity of the charges, it will take some time before any decision is reached in any event, and were the outcome to be unfavourable to City, there’s some certainty to the club launching an appeal, delaying the outcome even further.

According to The Times (subscription required), a number of Premier League clubs are reserving the right to seek compensation for lost earnings were City to be found guilty.

Man City’s former financial advisor had a lot to say about the outcome of the ongoing trial. Find out what he said here!

Essentially, some clubs will have been denied the right to finances that a title win would’ve seen them achieve, and/or the prize money involved in qualifying for the latter stages of European competitions.

There is a need for those clubs to protect their positions now given that its understood they could be time barred from doing so if they wait until the end of the trial and/or a subsequent appeal.

Any potentially successful cases against City would cost the club many millions of pounds, though the loss of prestige would be far more humbling for the club.

Such scenarios may not even come to pass if City’s legal team manage to ensure that the club’s name, and that of their directors emerge successfully from the case.

Both Crystal Palace and Wolverhampton Wanderers haven’t had the best start to their Premier League season, with Ismaila Sarr being lambasted for something that he did in the recent game between the two clubs.

Palace only recently did the deal with Watford to bring Sarr to Selhurst Park, so there’s not too much likelihood to moving him on again so soon.

Ismaila Sarr blasted for his latest contribution

The Athletic’s Matt Woosnam was clearly not impressed with the 26-year-old’s contribution and wrote as much on his X feed.

Such profligacy has almost certainly contributed to Palace looking to remove Oliver Glasner from his position.

At the time of writing, the Eagles are certainly not soaring.

After 10 games of the 2024/25 season, they have just one win to their name, and are sat just above the bottom three.

It’s an astonishing turnaround under Glasner, who saw his side go on an epic run towards the back end of the 2023/24 campaign.

Brilliant winger could return to Crystal Palace just months after leaving. Find out who here!

Although a ‘new manager bounce’ doesn’t always work, it does appear to be getting to the point where Steve Parish will have to make a decision one way or the other.

With the international break almost upon us, it would be an opportune time for a new man to be brought in, as it would then give them six weeks or so to see what he has in the squad before making transfer decisions for the January window.

Three of Palace’s next five fixtures are against high-flying Aston Villa, Newcastle United and Man City, so it really is a case of now or never for Parish.

He surely can’t afford to leave things until the turn of the year and then, effectively, panicking, as this benefits no one.

Sarr isn’t the only one playing without confidence so a new voice in the dressing room might just do the trick.

Chelsea midfielder Moises Caicedo was among the big names to make the Premier League team of the week after his superb display against Manchester United at the weekend.

The Ecuador international is one of the most improved players in the Premier League this season, and he scored a superb volley to earn Chelsea a point at Old Trafford in Sunday’s big game.

Caicedo ran the show from midfield and makes sense as an obvious pick for team of the week, as he continues to justify that big price tag the Blues paid to sign him from Brighton.

It took a little while for Caicedo to get going at Stamford Bridge, but there’s no doubt that he’s now one of the most important players in the team, and this surely won’t be his last team of the week appearance this season.

Premier League team of the week in full

Discussing Caicedo’s performance, Deeney said: “His performance in Chelsea’s draw at Manchester United was arguably his best game for the club.

“Highly thought of…” – Chelsea are convinced this player has a “bright future” but fans surely won’t agree! Click here to find out more.

“I know people think it is about his goal – and it was a wonderful strike – but he was all over the place, putting his foot in, making loads of fouls, ratty tackles.

“He got on the ball more too and was braver, playing it forward. I thought he was miles better than he has been.”

Elsewhere in Troy Deeney’s line-up, Tottenham get two players in after their impressive 4-1 victory over Aston Villa.

Unai Emery’s side have not been easy to beat for some time now, and it looked like they might be heading for a win in north London after taking the lead, but Spurs overpowered them with a superb comeback late on.

Three Bournemouth players also made it in after their surprise 2-1 win over Manchester City, while Newcastle winger Anthony Gordon is also in there after his part in the Magpies’ win over Arsenal.

Ruben Amorim’s hire by Man United could change the immediate career trajectory of Wolves’ Rayan Ait-Nouri, a long-term Liverpool target.

The 23-year-old is a standout player for the Midlands-based club, however, they’ve yet to win in the 2024/25 season and are second from bottom with just two points after nine Premier League games.

To that end, both United and Liverpool might consider the upcoming January transfer window as the perfect time to land the player.

Man United and Liverpool want Ait-Nouri

Give Me Sport sources suggest that Amorim wants to make Ait-Nouri his first signing for the Red Devils, given the continuing injury concerns of England international, Luke Shaw.

Arne Slot already has Andrew Robertson and Kostas Tsimikas available on the left side of his defence, though were Ait-Nouri to make it clear that he sees his future away from Molineux, the Reds have to be in the conversation or his services.

Former pro turned pundit, Alan Shearer, criticised Robertson for his performance against Arsenal’s Bukayo Saka, and he’s likely not to have been the only one.

Liverpool and Man United want Ait-Nouri

With three goals and two assists in their nine English top-flight games in 24/25 already for Wolves (transfermarkt), it’s obvious as to why both United and Liverpool would want to acquire him.

It would present the player with an interesting choice too.

Liverpool under Slot have been as efficient and easy on the eye as they were when Jurgen Klopp was in charge, and therefore could be considered as a project that’s continued where the German left off.

United under Amorim will still be in its infancy by January, though Ait-Nouri may consider the opportunity to help see the Red Devils rise like a phoenix from the flames as one that he can’t turn down.

Ultimately, it could depend on which club is prepared to meet Wolves’ valuation of a player who has become a talisman for them.

The team of the week from the latest round of Premier League action is in, with players from Arsenal, Chelsea, Manchester City and more featuring in Troy Deeney’s line up.

Still, it’s perhaps a bit of a surprise to see that Deeney didn’t select a single Liverpool player in his team of the week, given that the Reds fought back well to earn a 2-2 draw away to Arsenal.

See below for the full XI on BBC Sport, with Arsenal’s Thomas Partey doing well to earn a place after filling in well in an unfamiliar role at right-back, while there’s also no way Chelsea’s Cole Palmer could have been left out after his starring role for the Blues as they beat Newcastle United…

Premier League team of the week
Premier League team of the week (via BBC Sport)

Elsewhere, it’s a real mix from across the Premier League as we also see impressive performers from the likes of Crystal Palace, West Ham, Fulham, Nottingham Forest, and Wolves.

Brentford’s Bryan Mbuemo is also a name that’s becoming harder and harder to ignore as his superb season continues, so this probably won’t be the last team of the week we see him in.

Team of the week: Liverpool harshly overlooked?

Liverpool might not have been at their brilliant best against Arsenal, but Mohamed Salah came up with a crucial equaliser in the second half and was a threat throughout, while Trent Alexander-Arnold had a role in the goal and helped the Reds control the game a bit better when he inverted into midfield slightly more in the second half.

Liverpool fans won’t care too much, though, as they’ll simply be happy with a well-earned point from one of their toughest fixtures so far, with Arne Slot still only having one defeat to his name after a terrific start since replacing Jurgen Klopp at Anfield in the summer.

Manchester United are ready to listen to offers for winger Antony as the January transfer window approaches, with the Brazilian potentially available both on loan or permanently.

Erik ten Hag has apparently given the green light for the £85m signing (Sky Sports) to be moved on, though he still insisted on playing him ahead of Amad Diallo in the recent Champions League draw at Fenerbahce.

Chukwueze holds key to Antony departure

That’s one of many strange decisions that the Dutchman appears to have made of late, and it’s little wonder that the squad aren’t putting together any sort of decent run at present.

Sources have advanced to CaughtOffside that many top European clubs have shown a concrete interest in Antony, in particular the Serie A giants Juventus and AC Milan.

Both have apparently been continuously monitoring his situation of late, and the Rossoneri look likely to be favourites in any deal, loan or otherwise, if it comes down to a straight fight between themselves and the Bianconeri.

Antony could be sold this January
Milan’s Samu Chukwueze holds the key to whether Antony will be sold in January. Photo by Charlotte Tattersall/Getty Images

That’s because sources have also told CaughtOffside that Milan’s 25-year-old Nigerian winger, Samu Chukwueze, is being courted by the likes of Fulham, Wolverhampton Wanderers, Aston Villa and West Ham United.

If Chukwueze were to transfer to any of the Premier League clubs mentioned, with sources suggesting that Villa hold all the aces thanks to the player’s previous relationship with Unai Emery at Villarreal, and Villa’s current trajectory, then Milan will definitely swoop for Antony.

With football ever changing, Man United might well have a new man in the dugout before the January transfer window in any event, and they might take a broader view on Antony’s suitability to the Red Devils.

How many times before have we seen a player resurrect his career at the same club with only a change of manager being the catalyst for getting the best out of them…
